Soooo I’m a little late to the whole Vitamin C Serum scene, but holy smokes…..do I ever fricken LOVE this stuff! If you’re not familiar, allow me to shed some light. The main benefit of Vitamin C is that it stimulates the production of collagen. Why is this important? Collagen is naturally produced by the body and is pretty much responsible for keeping your skin plump, fresh and young.
All well and good up until your late twenties, but then guess what happens? Yep, collagen production starts to S L O W down.
Not only does our age affect collagen production but it can also be affected by environmental factors, lifestyle choices, and diet. You can help arm yourself with veggies, lots and lots veggies. Think dark leafy greens like spinach and kale with antioxidants that protect against the free radicals that break down collagen. Red veggies like beets, tomatoes, and red peppers are full of lycopene, which boosts collagen and protects against sun damage. Oh…and don’t forget your orange veggies! Carrots, butternut squash, and sweet potatoes are loaded with vitamin A, which restores collagen that’s been damaged.
Protecting your health and skin can be delicious when you have a healthy diet! If you still feel the need to channel your inner sun goddess, then please dip yourself in some high digit sunscreen!
That being said, not all Vitamin C serums are created equal, not even in the cruelty-free game. I’m only two purchases in and so far, Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum is my fave.
HUGE difference between the last purchase and my current Mad Hippie elixir. Last serum which I am reluctant to name because it had such great reviews that ultimately lead to my purchase, but sadly left my skin feeling dry and thirsty. I gave it a shot and used the whole bottle, but it had thee exact opposite effect it was supposed to have. My not loving it was why I wanted to try something else, enter Mad Hippie. There were a lot of reasons why I chose Mad Hippie…..topping the list is cruelty-free and vegan, the name (I mean, Mad Hippie? C’mon, that’s fantastic!), the reviews and even the packaging is soy ink and recycled material. WINNING!
So, how does it work you ask? Oh, it’s ah- maaaaaazing! Nice consistency, little goes a long way, dries fast, and all whilst leaving your face dewy soft. What’s not to love about this stuff? My skin looks brighter, feels smoother and dare I say….may even have a wee bit of a glow. Allure magazine calls it “A Miracle Worker” and Marie Claire proclaims, “What we in the Industry call Magic” and In Style magazine calls it the “Glow Getter Serum”! Whaaaaat?!?! I will definitely be adding some more Mad Hippie to my life! Stay tuned~
